I have been a figurative painter for 30 years. I studied Marxist History of Art and Fine Art at Wincester School of Art in the UK and have always had a keen interest in Social Realism.
My “Pint Men & Women” are a study of this theme, as these characters appear either alone or collectively in different scenarios.
The contrast of light and dark in my paintings depicts an exaggerated use of chiaroscuro (the use of light and shade) . Perspective is often tilted. Ultimately I intend to embody the subjects in a fleeting moment, like a hazy movie clip reminisced. Some subjects are personal, whilst others may be faces archived in memory. Yet all have been released on canvass in an honourable tribute to whatever they represent; be it humour, melancholy, tension or contemplation
